Position Title | Adult Literacy Coach (Lead Program) |
Job Description | Foundations provides one-to-one adult instruction. Volunteers are matched with an adult learner to meet weekly. Learning sessions last between one and one and a half hours and take place in mutually agreeable public locations (such as branches of the Saskatoon Public Library) or online via Zoom; COVID protocols for in-person meetings will be observed. A six (6) month volunteer commitment is required. Volunteers attend a free full-day training on tutoring methods and techniques, and they have ongoing support from Foundations in their development as coaches. |
Skills Required | Effective coaches share literacy skills while creating a positive learning experience. A one-on-one setting with an adult learner requires the coach to see the learner more as a partner than as a student; effective coaches understand they need to focus on the learner's goals and are patient, respectful, adaptable, culturally sensitive, realistic, and organized. |
Benefits to Volunteer | Be part of a caring and trained volunteer network that helps adult learners with their reading, writing, and other literacy skills. Together we will make a difference! |
